The Valparaiso University Department of Athletics has announced a matching gift challenge for all gifts to the Valpo Women's Basketball Excellence Fund on Valpo Day 2026, Wednesday, April 8, up to $20,000.
"I know Courtney and I know that she is driven to be a winner at anything and everything she does," the anonymous supporter who is making this challenge possible said. "Look at her resume – as a player and coach – she has been a winner. I truly believe that as she establishes a new culture at Valpo, the wins will come. Combine that culture with the resources, and I believe championships will come. That's how much I believe in Courtney. I hope that the Valpo community, program alumni and others will see this support and consider supporting Coach Boyd and the Valpo Women's Basketball program."
Launched in November 2025, the Women's Basketball Excellence Fund supports the greatest areas of need for the program. Resources allocated to this fund will have a direct impact on the operating needs of the program, as well as its student-athletes, coaches and support staff. This matching gift will assist the coaching staff with recruiting and retaining championship-caliber student-athletes.
"We are extremely thankful that we have a supporter who has stepped up to pledge this initial matching gift and hope that it inspires others to join in contributing to our Excellence Fund on Valpo Day," Boyd said. "We are committed to building a championship-level program here at Valpo, and as we work towards making that a reality, backing from our community of the Excellence Fund will help provide the resources which will allow us to make that happen."
Gifts made before Valpo Day will count toward the match, however gifts made on Valpo Day – Wednesday, April 8 – will assist the program to potentially earn additional prize monies and rewards thanks to other generous supporters of Valpo Athletics.
"We are profoundly grateful for this visionary anonymous matching gift challenge that will elevate Valpo Women's Basketball to new heights and calls our family to join in the momentum," Director of Athletics and Campus Recreation
Laurel Hosmer said. "This extraordinary leadership recognizes the critical role philanthropy plays in the new era of college athletics, where private support has never been more essential to competitive excellence and student-athlete success. On Valpo Day, we challenge our entire community to rally behind our University, department and programs — because when we invest in our student-athletes together, we demonstrate the unwavering backing that fuels championships and transforms lives."
