Valparaiso University men's basketball head coach
Roger Powell Jr. has announced the addition of
Nick Sullivan to the team's staff as video coordinator. In addition,
Sean Taylor has been promoted to assistant coach,
Jacob Lindsey will remain with the program as an operations & creative media volunteer and
Joe Vick will remain with the program as a graduate assistant.
Sullivan arrives at Valpo after spending the last two seasons as an assistant coach at Whitworth University in Spokane, Wash. Prior to Whitworth, he spent two seasons as a graduate assistant at Gonzaga, where he worked alongside Powell.
"I have great familiarity with Nick after we were together at Gonzaga," Powell said. "He worked with elite players and was part of the positive culture that we had there. His work ethic and ability to relate to the players made him someone I wanted to add to our staff here at Valpo."
Prior to Gonzaga, Sullivan was the head coach at Golden State Prep from 2019-2021 and an assistant coach at Prolific Prep for the 2021-2022 season. He also gained experience as the head coach at Prolific Select AAU (2020-2021), an assistant coach at Bushnell University (2018-2019) and working for the United States Baseball Academy in Xi'an, China (2016).
A four-year varsity player at Bushnell University, an NAIA program in Eugene, Ore., Sullivan earned his undergraduate degree in business administration and interpersonal communication in May 2016 before going on to achieve his master's in organizational leadership from Gonzaga in June 2024. He graduated from De La Salle High School in Concord, Calif. in 2012.
"I'm extremely excited to be at Valpo," Sullivan said. "The opportunity to be reunited with Roger makes this even more special. I've always believed in Roger as a coach, a leader and a person, and I believe in the vision he has for Valpo Basketball. There is great momentum around this program and I'm excited to be part of what's being built here! I can't wait to get to work, connect with the Valpo community and help continue moving this program forward."
Taylor has been a fixture on the Valpo coaching staff throughout the Powell Era as he joined the Beacons prior to the 2023-2024 season. He previously served as assistant player development coach before the recent promotion.
Taylor joined Valpo's staff after serving as SIUE's graduate assistant/video coordinator from August 2021 to May 2023. Prior to his tenure at SIUE, Taylor served as a student manager at Marquette from September 2018 to April 2021. Before his time at Marquette, Taylor spent the 2017-18 season as a men's basketball student-athlete at Saint John's University in Collegeville, Minn.
Taylor is a native of Homewood, Ill. and a product of Marian Catholic High School. He graduated from Marquette in May 2021 with a bachelor's degree in communication studies before going on to earn his master's in applied communication studies from SIUE in May 2023.
Lindsey spent the last three seasons as a graduate assistant coach, handling basketball-related responsibilities while also playing a key role in the program's graphic design and social media efforts. A May 2023 Butler University graduate with a degree in sports media, Lindsey earned his master's in sports administration from Valpo in May 2025 and his MBA from Valpo in May 2026.
A Kouts, Ind. native, Vick joins the Valpo men's basketball staff as a graduate assistant after spending the last four seasons as a walk-on player for the Beacons.
