A veteran and rookie shared the Valparaiso University women's golf team's top score on Monday as the Beacons played the first two rounds of Ball State's Brittany Kelly Classic, hosted at the par-72, 6294-yard Players Club at Woodland Trails in Yorktown, Ind. Fifth-year senior
Katelyn McCoy (Chesterton, Ind. / Chesterton) began her final collegiate campaign, while freshman
Olivia Bailey (Rochester, Ind. / Rochester Community) made her collegiate debut.
How It Happened
- McCoy went sub-80 in both rounds on Monday, leading the team with a 79 in Round 1 before improving to 78 in Round 2 to finish the day at 157, tied for 45th in a 91-player field.
- Buoyed by birdies on the 14th and 15th holes in both rounds, Bailey also finished Day 1 at 157 (t-45). She had the team's best round of the day in Round 2, carding a 77 including an under par back nine.
- Sophomore Katie Estridge (Biloxi, Miss. / Biloxi) was third on the team at 161 (81-80, t-63).
- The Beacons posted a 640 (322-318) on the day, 14th on the team leaderboard.
