The Valparaiso University football program has announced its team awards for the second week of the 2024 season. The entire offensive line has been named the team's Offensive Player of the Week, while redshirt kicker Ryan Hawk (Columbus, Ohio / Bishop Hartley) has been tabbed the team's Special Teams Player of the Week.
In addition, the squad has tabbed the following Scout Team Players of the Week – freshman defensive lineman Max Munoz (Oak Forest, Ill. / St. Laurence) on defense, freshman wide receiver Jack Elgin (Akron, Ohio / St. Francis de Sales) on offense and redshirt freshman linebacker Gus Wenning (Cross Plains, Wis. / Middleton) on special teams.
The o-line played a key role in Valpo's 25 points, its highest-ever scoring output against a Missouri Valley Football Conference opponent, in Saturday's game at No. 25/23 Youngstown State. Valpo totaled 331 yards of offense and permitted just one sack against a full-scholarship, FCS opponent. Hawk went 2-for-2 on extra points and drilled a 26-yard field goal while averaging 65.0 yards per kickoff on five attempts, including three touchbacks.
The Beacons will host Indiana Wesleyan on Saturday at 6:30 p.m. at Brown Field to open the home portion of the season.
