The Valparaiso University track & field team returned to the South Bend area this weekend as individuals competed at Notre Dame's Meyo Invitational on Friday and Saturday. Sophomore
Noah Meacham (Tulsa, Okla. / Broken Arrow) shattered a program record, while a pair of additional Beacons notched program all-time top-5 times on Friday. Multiple members of the team established personal bests over the two days.
How It Happened
- In the mid-distance on Friday, Meacham had a top-half finish in a 20-runner 600m field at 1:21.20, shattering Kevin Adamik's program record of 1:23.32 that had stood since 2012.
- In Friday's distance action, sophomore Karson Hollander (Crystal Lake, Ill. / Crystal Lake) completed the 5,000 in 14:33.34, establishing a personal record and finishing in the top 20 in a 46-runner field. His time ranks third in the program record book behind only Evan Walda and Simeon Ehm from last season.
- In the women's sprints and hurdles, junior Katie Koryczan (Crown Point, Ind. / Crown Point) had Friday's highlight with a PR of 9.42 seconds in qualifying of the 60m hurdles, a time that ranked third in program history and was the program's fastest time in that event since Melanie Wilson's 2008 program record.
- In the jumps, Koryczan PR'd at 4.84 meters in the long jump, while junior Micah Mullings (Minesing, Ontario, Canada / Barrie North) boasted a mark of 7.11m on the men's side, finishing third of eight.
- Junior Anthony Vassolo (Tinley Park, Ill. / Andrew) paced the men in the sprints with his time of 22.97 seconds in the 200 on Friday.
- On Saturday, the highlights came in the men's distance events, as Meacham posted a personal-best time of 4:19.97 in the mile, while sophomore Tim Jochum (Glen Ellyn, Ill. / Glenbard South) had a season best of 1:56.32 in the 800. In the women's throws, Amelia Tandy (New Albany, Ind. / New Albany) turned in a mark of 14.06 meters in the weight.
