The Valparaiso University women's golf team teed off the spring portion of the season on Monday with the first two rounds of the two-day, 54-hole Islander Classic, hosted by Texas A&M Corpus Christi at the par-72, 6112-yard Corpus Christi Country Club in Corpus Christi, Texas. Sophomore
Bella Campos (Honolulu, Hawaii / IMG Academy) recorded the team's top score through 36 holes.
How It Happened
- Campos is tied for 25th in the 56-player field with a 36-hole score of 159 (+15). She notched a 79 in the opening round and followed with an 80 in Round 2.
- Senior Katie Schreiner (Fenton, Mo. / Summit) enjoyed a bounce-back second round by trimming 15 strokes off her Round-1 score. She finished the day at t-40 with a 165, improving from 90 in Round 1 to 75 (+3) in Round 2, tying a season best. She had four birdies on the day including three in the second round, turning the trick on holes 7, 15 and 16.
- Senior Madison Keil (LaGrange, Ind. / Lakeland) finished the day third on the team at 168 (87-81), ranking 46th.
- Valpo's team score of 661 (+85) is tied for ninth in the 10-team field. The Beacons improved from 343 in Round 1 to 318 in Round 2.
- Texas A&M Corpus Christi holds the team lead at +20 and boasts the top individual with Elsa Tornvall leading the way at even par.

"It was a bumpy start, as to be expected after not being outside since last fall. We started to really turn things around and play better this afternoon. I'm very proud of everyone and hope we continue to find more momentum tomorrow."
