The Valpo women's swimming team posted the second-fastest 400 medley relay time in program history Thursday evening, while the Beacons boasted four individual times which rank among the top-10 in program history in various events as well on the second day of action at the MVC Championships in Waukee, Iowa.
How It Happened
- Valpo's 400 medley relay quartet — Sophie Schoch (Medina, Ohio/Medina), Sara Strauss (Spring Lake, Mich./Spring Lake), Kailyn Benoit (Sussex, Wis./Hamilton) and Courtney Ledbetter (Wentzville, Mo./Timberland [Notre Dame College]) — covered the distance in 3:53.76, second-fastest in program history in the event and over three seconds faster than the third-fastest time.
- Earlier in the day, Ledbetter paced the Beacons in the 50 free prelims with a time of 24.25, moving up to fourth place all-time at Valpo in the event.
- In the same set of prelims, Bri Keese (Brighton, Colo./Brighton) touched the wall in 24.54 to crack the program's top-10. That was one of two swims which impacted Valpo's record book for Keese on Thursday, as she swam her 100 IM time trial in 1:03.32, eighth-fastest by a Valpo swimmer.
- Benoit improved upon her seventh-fastest time in program history in a time trial of the 200 back, besting her PR with a time of 2:09.57. Two other Beacons narrowly missed top-10 times in program history in time trials as well, as Natalie Eaton (Tulsa, Okla./Jenks) was three-hundredths off her PR in the 50 breast which ranks seventh at Valpo and Faith Bargwell (Grand Rapids, Mich./Rockford) covered the 50 fly in 27.39, just one-hundredth of a second outside the top-10.
- Olivia Tressler (Las Vegas, Nev./Desert Oasis) led the Valpo contingent in the prelims of the 200 IM, posting a time of 2:14.68, while Ally Unruh (Peoria, Ill./Dunlap) was the Beacons' fastest in the 500 free prelims, coming home in 5:13.39.
- Valpo concluded the day in eighth place in the team standings.
