Madison Keil (LaGrange, Ind. / Lakeland) led the Valparaiso University women's golf team in the first round of the two-day, 36-hole Benbow Spring Invitational at the par-72, 6119-yard Ardea Country Club south course in Oldsmar, Fla. Keil is tied for third in a 95-player field.
How It Happened
- Keil carded a 76 (+4) to join four others in a tie for third through one day of action. She is four strokes back of FDU's Anete Adul, who leads the way with a 72. Keil had a great start to the round as she began on Hole 12 and subsequently birdied three consecutive holes – the par-5 13th, the par-3 14th and the par-4 15th.
- Sophomore Bella Campos (Honolulu, Hawaii / IMG Academy) is second on the team and 14th overall through one round. She turned in a 78 highlighted by a birdie on Hole 9.
- Valpo is 11th on the team leaderboard at 337 (+49). The Beacons are tied with IU Indy and lead Longwood, Quinnipiac (B) and Southern Indiana.

"Maddie played very well in some very difficult conditions today. She made some birdie putts early that really helped her gain momentum. I'm confident tomorrow will be a better day overall."
