The Valpo men's and women's swimming teams combined to have eight swimmers honored as the Missouri Valley Conference announced its Scholar-Athlete Teams on Friday.
 
On the men's side, Andrew Berzai (South Bend, Ind./Mishawaka Marian), Ricky Helmboldt (Tucson, Ariz./Arizona Connections Academy) and Anthony Martin (Bartlett, Ill./Bartlett) were recognized. The Beacon women were represented by Roxanne Adams (Aguadilla, Puerto Rico/Homeschooled), Kailyn Benoit (Sussex, Wis./Hamilton), Haley Hume (Ballwin, Mo./Marquette), Courtney Ledbetter (Wentzville, Mo./Timberland [Notre Dame College]) and Sophie Schoch (Medina, Ohio/Medina).
 
To be eligible for the Scholar-Athlete Team, swimmers must be in at least their second year of college and meet one of the following criteria: a 3.5 GPA and an All-Conference honoree; a 3.7 GPA and a top-24 finish in an individual event at the MVC Championships; or a 3.9 GPA and participation at the MVC Championships.
