Sophomore
Bella Campos (Honolulu, Hawaii / IMG Academy) tied the best 18-hole round of her collegiate career to lead the Valparaiso University women's golf team on Monday's second and final day of the Indiana State Spring Invitational, hosted by the Sycamores at the par-72, 5950-yard Country Club of Terre Haute. Senior
Katie Schreiner (Fenton, Mo. / Summit) finished atop all Beacons for the tournament.
How It Happened
- Campos carded a team-best 74 (+2) on Monday, climbing into a tie for 20th in the 54-player field. She made a nine-stroke improvement from Round 1 to Round 2. Campos went par or better on 15 of 18 holes in Round 2 including a birdie on the par-4 eighth hole.
- Campos' score tied for the best by a Valpo player this season and matched her own personal best that was set in the first round of the 2024 Butler Fall Invitational.
- Schreiner turned in a solid tournament with a 36-hole score of 154 (+10). She posted a 78 (+6) on Monday including a birdie on the 12th hole. The 154 was one stroke away from cracking the program's all-time top 10 for 36-hole tournament score. Schreiner was two strokes away from a top 10, finishing at t-13.
- The team featured three scores of 78 or better on Monday as Campos and Schreiner were joined by junior Taylor Skibinski (Michigan City, Ind. / Michigan City), who carded a 77 (+5). She finished with a 36-hole score of 158 (+14), tied for 23rd on the player leaderboard.
- As a team, Valpo stroked a 311 (+23) in the second round to finish the tournament at 628 (+52). The Beacons played six strokes better on Monday compared to Sunday. The 311 was the team's best round of the spring season thus far and the +23 was the squad's second-best round all season (fall and spring) in relation to par, behind only the second round of the Brittany Kelly Classic in September.
- Valpo finished fifth of eight, beating Rose-Hulman, Eastern Illinois and Saint Mary-of-the-Woods. Purdue Fort Wayne took the team title, while Evansville's Louise Standtke captured medalist honors.
