Giusti Records Three Hits in Series Finale at Bradley

Senior Connor Giusti (Hoffman Estates, Ill. / Fremd) paced the Valparaiso University baseball team with three hits as the Beacons fell 13-3 in eight innings in Sunday's series finale under the lights at Dozer Park in Peoria, Ill.

How It Happened
  • Bradley took advantage of early wildness in the opening inning, scoring twice without the aid of a hit thanks to two walks, two hit batters and a sac fly. The Beacons did turn an unusual F742 double play to end the inning as a runner was out at the plate trying to tag and score on a fly ball to left.
  • The Braves picked up an unearned tally in the second to increase the lead to 3-0.
  • Valpo starter Spencer Boynton (Tampa, Fla. / Seffner Christian) put up zeros in the third and fourth with the Braves stranding a runner at third in each instance. The Beacons threatened in the top of the fifth, but left the bases full.
  • Bradley tacked on four unearned runs in the fifth. All four crossed the plate with two outs after an error had extended the inning. They added two more in the sixth to make it 9-0.
  • The Beacons got on the board in the top of the seventh as Kevin Denty (Tinley Park, Ill. / Marian Catholic) stroked a run-scoring single before a bouncer back to the mound and a wild pitch scored the next two Valpo runs to cut the Bradley lead to six at 9-3.
  • After Kolt Davis (Johnson, Neb. / Johnson-Brock) worked a scoreless seventh, Bradley ended the game by scoring four in the bottom of the eighth.
Inside the Game
  • Giusti tallied a season-high three hits, his first three-hit game since April 30, 2024 at Western Michigan.
  • Redshirt freshman Case Sullivan (Carmel, Ind. / Carmel) had two hits, his second straight multi-hit game and 10th of the season.
  • Valpo was plagued by wildness in the series finale as the team's pitching staff issued nine walks and hit four batters. Seven of Bradley's 13 runs were unearned due to three errors.
