Valparaiso University track & field sophomore
AJ Walsh (Lombard, Ill. / IC Catholic Prep) improved the program record in the decathlon, leading the Beacons on the final day of the Missouri Valley Conference Outdoor Track & Field Championships in Carbondale on Sunday.
How It Happened
- Walsh accrued 6,529 points, bettering the program record in the decathlon. He placed fifth of 13, earning four points for the Beacons.
- The men's 4x100 relay of Tim Whitelaw, Anthony Vassolo, Chaise Magnuson and Bruce Johnson crossed the finish line in a season-best time of 42.62 seconds, placing seventh and earning two points. Their time ranks fifth in program history and was Valpo's best in that event since 2017.
- In the women's 5000, Chante Dixon (Benoni, South Africa / Kempton Park [UTSA]) stopped the clock at 17:44.33, establishing a personal record and placing 16th of 27.
- Another Valpo PR on the final day in Carbondale came in the hammer throw as Will Rinker (Valparaiso, Ind. / Chesterton) placed 16th of 24 at 47.08m (154-5).
- The Valpo men placed ninth with 17 points.
