Connor Lockwood (Libertyville, Ill. / Libertyville) has garnered All-Missouri Valley Conference Honorable Mention recognition as the league announced its postseason honors on Tuesday.
Lockwood led the league in strikeouts with 80 and innings pitched with 95 2/3, finishing the regular season eight strikeouts ahead of the next-closest MVC hurler and 18 full innings clear of the pitcher with the second-heaviest workload in the league. He went 3-8 with a 6.59 ERA in 14 starts, while just 20 against the 80 strikeouts.
Lockwood started the season with an eight-inning complete game on Opening Day, striking out seven and walking none at Samford. He followed with 11 strikeouts and no walks at Memphis. In the conference opener on March 21 at Indiana State, he fanned 10 and walked one while allowing no earned runs in seven quality innings, pitching Valpo to its first win over Indiana State since 2007.
The right-hander heaved his second CG of the year on April 4 vs. Illinois State, allowing just two runs while striking out six and walking one in the full nine. In his first four years in a Valpo uniform, he has pitched 236 career innings and struck out 192. This year, he ranked 81
st nationally in strikeouts, 70
th in strikeout-to-walk ratio and 52
nd in walks allowed per nine innings.
