Box Score The Valparaiso University baseball team had three consecutive multi-run innings in the fifth, sixth and seventh, but it was host Wofford that put together the biggest frame of the game, scoring six times in the bottom of the sixth, which proved to be the difference in a 15-9 victory over the Beacons on Friday night in Spartanburg, S.C. Junior
Louie Kegerreis (Murrysville, Pa. / Franklin Regional) had three hits to lead the Brown & Gold.

How It Happened
- After a stolen base and E2 put a runner 90 feet away, Wofford lifted a sac fly to strike first with an unearned run in the bottom of the first.
- The Terriers added three runs on three hits including a two-run double in the third, stretching the lead to 4-0.
- Wofford tallied three more, one of which was unearned, in the fourth, creating a 7-0 advantage.
- The Beacons stormed back in the fifth inning as George Betevis (Hanover Park, Ill. / Bartlett) roped a two-run double before another run scampered home on a ground ball by Case Sullivan (Carmel, Ind. / Carmel), putting Valpo back in the game at 7-3.
- Sophomore Javin Gauthier (De Pere, Wis. / De Pere) helped Valpo take advantage of an error and a wild pitch in the sixth, stroking a run-scoring single to right. Gauthier later scooted home on another wild pitch, reducing the Wofford lead to two at 7-5.
- The Terriers scored half a dozen in the top of the sixth, boosting the lead to eight at 13-5. Two Valpo errors contributed to the big inning.
- A zany, high-scoring affair continued in the top of the seventh, when a bases-clearing triple by freshman Cal Schembra (Greenwood, Ind. / Center Grove) helped Valpo creep back to within five at 13-8. Gauthier added an RBI single in that inning to make it a 13-9 game.
- A two-run, two-out single allowed Wofford to plate two more in the bottom of the seventh, one of which was unearned. That made it 15-9.
- Valpo threatened in the top of the eighth, but left the bases full after a lineout ended the inning. The Beacons had ducks on the pond again in the ninth with two on and nobody out, but the Terriers worked out of trouble to close out the victory.
Inside the Game
- The three hits for Kegerreis came as part of his first multi-hit game in a Valpo uniform.
- Betevis and Gauthier had two hits apiece and Gauthier was on base four times including two walks.
- The Beacons drew 10 walks, already the team's second double-figure walk total of the year in just five games.
- Valpo left 12 on base and Wofford stranded 11 in a game that saw both teams have a lot of traffic on the bases.
- Schembra's triple was the first of his young collegiate career and his three RBIs were a career high. He has already driven in eight runs this season with multiple RBIs in three of his first five games.
- Valpo scored nine runs on 10 hits, the team's second-highest run and hit totals of the season.
- Wofford won 33 games last season and reached an NCAA Regional after winning the Big South Conference.
- Valpo committed five errors, which would have tied for the team's most in a game last season. Eight of Wofford's 15 runs were unearned against the Valpo team ERA.
