Men's Track and Field

Track and Field Finishes Out Weekend in Windy City

Two members of the program cracked the all-time top 5 in their events, while two others improved upon their marks that were already etched in the program record book as the Valparaiso University men's and women's track & field teams continued their indoor seasons at the Windy City Invite hosted by Wisconsin at Gately Complex in Chicago this weekend.

How It Happened
  • The distance group had multiple fast times on Saturday, the second of the two-day event, including a men's mile of 4:10.69 by Joey Yaros (Bloomington, Ill. / Normal Community) that ranks second in program history and helped him place seventh in the event.
  • Elsewhere in the men's mile, Joseph Scheele (Mahomet, Ill. / Mahomet-Seymour) stopped the timer in 4:12.54, placing eighth, although not quite eclipsing his PR of 4:10.92 that ranks third in program history.
  • On the women's side, Laetitia Raoult (Guingamp, France / Florida International) had a mile run that had her in the top half of a competitive field, finishing in 5:09.09 to place fifth.
  • In the 3000, Samantha Rowley (Barrington, Ill. / Barrington) had the team's best time of the season and finished in the top half of the field in the event, placing fifth. Her 10:00.76 ranks fourth in program history and was Valpo's best since Laura Rolf's 2007 program record of 9:22.44. On the men's side, Noah Meacham (Tulsa, Okla. / Broken Arrow) PR'd in 8:35.47.
  • In the jumps, Katelyn Jaster (Centennial, Colo. / Smoky Hill) improved her HJ PR of 1.59m (5-2.5) from last week, maintaining her placement of fourth in the program record book.
  • Friday's races included the men's 600, which saw Alejandro Chaves (Bayamon, P.R. / American Military Academy) place sixth with a PR of 1:23.27, elevating himself to third in program history by improving upon his time from last week that ranked fourth. Alina Worzella (Martinsville, Ind. / Martinsville) finished the women's 600 in 1:40.38, narrowly behind her PR that ranks third in program history.
  • The Beacons had several PRs in the sprints and throws as well over the course of the weekend.
Up Next
The Beacons will head right back to the Gately facility on Chicago's south side on Friday, Feb. 13 to participate in the Blue Demon Alumni Classic hosted by DePaul.
