After having a Senior Weekend to remember in Valpo softball's series win over Bradley last weekend,
Grace Hollopeter (Lake Village, Ind./North Newton [Purdue Fort Wayne]) was named the MVC Newcomer of the Week.
Â
Hollopeter hit 6-for-11 for the week, highlighted by going 6-for-9 in the Bradley series as she picked up multiple hits in all three games. She scored three runs and tallied eight RBIs while also posting a perfect fielding percentage at second base.
Â
Hollopeter started the weekend by going 2-for-3 with four RBIs in the series-opening win, putting the Beacons in front for good with a three-run homer in the fifth inning. She went 2-for-2 with a run scored and a sacrifice in the middle game, and then recorded four RBIs for the second time on the weekend in the series finale. Hollopeter gave Valpo the lead at the time with a two-run double in the fifth inning, and then connected on a two-run walk-off homer in the bottom of the seventh in the final home game of her collegiate career.
Â
The weekly award is the first for Hollopeter with the Valpo program and the sixth overall of her collegiate career. She is Valpo's first MVC weekly award winner since
Erin Metz was named Pitcher of the Week and
Azalya Lopez Newcomer of the Week on April 7 last season.
