Terron Garrett to Join Valpo Men’s Basketball Program

The Valparaiso University men's basketball program has announced the addition of Terron Garrett (St. Louis, Mo. / Vashon [Mineral Area College]), a 6-foot-7 junior college transfer guard who will join the team as a sophomore for the 2026-2027 season.

"The first time I visited Valpo, they welcomed me with open arms," Garrett said. "When I got there, I felt like I was already part of the Valpo family. We had normal conversations that made them feel like family off the jump. The personality of the coaches played a huge factor in my decision."

JUCORecruiting.com listed Garrett as one of the top 50 junior college freshmen this past season.

"Terron is an under-the-radar JUCO player who won a state championship in high school," Valpo head coach Roger Powell Jr. said.  "He has athleticism, size and an ability to score. He has some similarities to Owen Dease. I'm excited to see how he can grow and develop and be a contributor next year."

Garrett appeared in 32 games and made 31 starts in 2025-26, averaging 13.4 points per game while shooting 34.4 percent from 3 and 77.4 percent from the free-throw line. He also averaged 4.5 rebounds and 2.1 assists per contest.

"They are getting a very versatile player," Garrett said. "I pride myself on versatility – I'm a shooter, defender, playmaker – whatever is needed to win. I like to impact winning as much as I possibly can. They are definitely getting a winner."

Garrett reached 1,000 points at the high school level with the last 3 he made in the state championship game, when he scored 17 points to help Vashon to the state title. While playing for Bradley Beal Elite, he hit a buzzer-beater and Beal was coaching at the time, so he got to celebrate with him after hitting the shot.

"Playing Division-I has always been a goal of mine," Garrett said. "My pops, mom and brother all challenged me through my childhood to get to this level. I've been pushing from the beginning since I started playing at a young age. Now that I've reached this goal, I want to reach my next goal, which is winning a championship at Valpo."

Off the court, Garrett is a gamer and loves playing 2K. He also enjoys playing chess. He is undecided upon his major but is leaning toward business.

Playing in the Missouri Valley Conference will give Garrett the chance to play in his hometown when the biggest week of the year rolls around – Arch Madness, the State Farm MVC Tournament in St. Louis.

"When Valpo called, I was right next to my uncle and when Coach [Matt] Gordon said he is from Valpo, my uncle was like, 'Oh, wow, Valpo,'" Garrett said. "It's close to home; my family is going to be at the games. It's one of the top conferences, and I'm up for the challenge."
