Three Valparaiso University women's golf seniors all posted scores of 76 or better in the second round and the trio combined for five sub-80 scores on Monday as the Beacons golfed the first two rounds of the 54-hole Brittany Kelly Classic, hosted by Ball State at the par-72, 6262-yard Players Club in Yorktown, Ind.
How It Happened
- Senior Anna Fay (Ada, Mich. / Forest Hills) enjoyed a consistent day, posting a 76 (+4) in each of her two rounds including the team's best score in Round 1. She finished the day atop the team at 152 (+8), tied for 25th in the 72-player field. Fay had a team-best nine birdies on the day.
- Senior Katie Schreiner (Fenton, Mo. / Summit) made a nice jump from Round 1 to Round 2, improving from 79 to 75. She finished the day at 154 (t-30).
- Senior Madison Keil (LaGrange, Ind. / Lakeland) improved her Round-1 score by seven strokes with a team-best 74 (+2) in Round 2. She finished the day at 155, tied for 34th.
- The Beacons improved by 11 strokes from Round 1 to Round 2. The squad's 36-hole score is 625 (318-307; +49), 11th of 12 on the team leaderboard. Valpo leads Cleveland State by 10 strokes and is just two strokes in back of Western Illinois for 10th.
- Host Ball State leads the tournament at 579 (+3), while Jasmine Driscoll of the Cardinals holds the lead for medalist honors at 140 (-4).
