The Valparaiso University women's golf team began the 2024-25 season on Sunday, golfing the first two rounds of the 54-hole, two-day Redbird Invitational, hosted by Illinois State at the par-72, 6093 Weibring Golf Club in Normal, Ill. Senior Madison Keil (LaGrange, Ind. / Lakeland) posted the top score by a member of the Beacons.
How It Happened
- Keil shot a 77 (+5) in the opening round before following with an 81 in Round 2 to finish the day at 158. She is tied for 60th in the 93-player field with 18 holes remaining.
- Senior Katie Schreiner (Fenton, Mo. / Summit) posted Valpo's next-best score with a 163, ranking 79th overall. She had an 80 in Round 1 and an 83 in Round 2. Junior Anna Fay (Ada, Mich. / Forest Hills) was third on the team at 165.
- Fay eagled the par-5 second hole in the first round, one of the highlights of the day for the Beacons.
- The Beacons shot better in the first round of the day at 322, before carding a 329 in Round 2 to finish the day at 651 (15th).
- Host Illinois State is atop the team leaderboard at 563, while Morgan Jones of the Redbirds holds the top spot individually at 137 (-7).
