Valparaiso University Rocket League team has completed a historic undefeated season, finishing with a perfect 6-0 record in the regular season and wrapping up playoffs claiming the NECC Division VI Mideast Championship. Under the leadership of Head Coach Thomas Hohnholt, the team pulled off a 4-2 win in a best of seven match vs Bowling Green State University on Wednesday, Dec. 3rd.
Senior Soren Burkholder, a December '25 graduating senior, reflected on his final season as a member of the Rocket League team. "It was an unbelievable feeling winning that series and what made it even more special was because it was my last game … to leave this program as a 3 time conference champion, I couldn't be happier and I am so grateful to all of my teammates over the years. To everyone who had an impact in our games, I just want to say thank you so much for everything."Â
Graduate Assistant of Esports, George Gillman, added, "the chemistry between Seniors Joshua Cronin and Soren Burkholder was already strong, but adding Freshman Logan Walliker to the lineup was a risk that paid off. The team never skipped a beat and dominated the season from start to finish."
Chris Smith, Assistant Athletic Director for Campus Recreation and Well-Being praised the team's achievements and national exposure. "Capping off an undefeated season with a championship and having the team's success showcased on ESPN+ was an incredible moment in our program's history. This team's dedication, hard work, and talent reflect the values of Valparaiso University and the strength of our esports program."
Looking ahead, Valparaiso University's Rocket League team is preparing for the next chapter of competition as they enter Missouri Valley Conference (MVC) play in the spring.Â
