The Valparaiso University women's golf team closed out the first event of the spring on Tuesday with the third and final round of the two-day, 54-hole Islander Classic, hosted by Texas A&M Corpus Christi at the par-72, 6112-yard Corpus Christi Country Club in Corpus Christi, Texas. Sophomore
Bella Campos (Honolulu, Hawaii / IMG Academy) finished with the team's top score.
How It Happened
- Campos closed the event tied for 26th in the 56-player field with a 54-hole score of 238 (+22). She carded 80 or better in each of the three rounds including a team-best 79 (+7) on Tuesday. Campos turned in a pair of birdies in the final round – the par-5 second hole and the par-4 seventh hole.
- Senior Katie Schreiner (Fenton, Mo. / Summit) carded an 80 to finish the tournament at 245 (+29), tied for 40th in the field.
- Senior Anna Fay (Ada, Mich. / Forest Hills) and junior Taylor Skibinski (Michigan City, Ind. / Michigan City) both had their best round of the tournament on Tuesday, finishing the round at 81 and 83, respectively. Both birdied the par-4 18th hole.
- Valpo placed 10th as a team with a 54-hole score of 984 (+120) including a 323 (+35) in the third round. Host Texas A&M Corpus Christi won the event at 900 and had the individual medalist with Samantha Gibbs turning in a three-round score of 218.
